The Center for Academic Progress

The Center for Academic Progress (CAP) helps prepare and support new students before registering for college coursework. All incoming students come through CAP to complete the required Accuplacer Preparation Workshop (APW).  Once the APW is complete, CAP staff review the scores and advise students on next steps. Students seeking to improve their skills prior to placement testing may enroll in one or more of the six CAP sponsored programs.  A description of the programs is listed below.

Center Services

English and Math Review Sessions are two-hour workshops that are run daily Monday – Thursday. The review sessions cover topics that are tested in the Accuplacer Placement Test. If you feel like a review session would help you better prepare for the placement test, stop by Lafayette Hall A209.

Jumpstart - English and or Math is an intensive five-week program for new students who have taken the Accuplacer exam and need to strengthen their skill set.  Students who successfully complete these free courses are given the opportunity to retake the Accuplacer exam in order to save time and money.

iEnglish and iMath iEnglish and iMath are intensive, computer based programs designed for new students whose Accuplacer scores indicate the need for a refresher before registration. Students who successfully complete iEnglish and/or iMath are eligible to retake the Accuplacer exam.
