classroom media frequently asked questions


What should I do if I notice that a piece of equipment is no longer working properly?

  1. If you require immediate help, please call x5180.
  2. Otherwise, please report the problem here**Any computer-related issues should be reported to the IT department.

I am having trouble logging on to the computer.  Why?

Please contact the IT Department with any questions regarding login or password issues.

My projector is projecting a blue screen.  What is wrong?

Most likely, the equipment you are using (computer, document camera, DVD player, etc.) is not turned on.  Please verify and then try pressing the hard key on the control panel again.

Can I connect my personal laptop to the classroom’s projector?

Yes, you can connect your laptop by using the laptop cable provided at the instructor's desk. (In Beacon Hall this cable is located in the cubby on top of the desk.)

* You should connect the laptop before powering it and selecting “Laptop” on the control panel.

Can students check out the equipment?

Students may request equipment, but must first have an instructor authorize the use by contacting Media Services via phone or email at mediaservices@hcc.commnet.edu.

Does Media Services offer training on the media equipment?

Yes.  Each semester we offer a group training session for all new instructors.  We are also available for one-on-one training sessions, which typically last only 10-15 minutes.  Please contact Media Services by phone or email to schedule an appointment.

Can I use Closed Captions in my classroom?

If you teach in Beacon Hall, you must request that a special decoder be installed in your classroom for the semester here.  If you simply press the closed captioning button on the touch panel, without having the special decoder installed, it will not work and the projector will display a blue screen.
If you teach in Lafayette Hall, there is no closed captioning option.
