Bridgeport Bluefish to Celebrate
Connecticut Manufacturing June 29
To Benefit New HCC Mfg. Hall of Fame
BRIDGEPORT – The Bridgeport Bluefish will host “Connecticut Manufacturing Day at Harbor Yard” on Sunday, June 29t with a manufacturing ceremony beginning at 12:30 PM.
The event will benefit Housatonic Community College Foundation’s new American Manufacturing Hall of Fame, a national organization to be based in Bridgeport. The event will celebrate the past success of manufacturing in Connecticut and look to the future growth of manufacturing in the region.
The Hall’s mission is to raise awareness of the positive aspects and solid economic sense Advanced Manufacturing brings to U.S. communities, and to raise funding for manufacturing students and programs to create American jobs. In 2014, the inaugural year of the Hall, proceeds will go to HCC’s Advanced Manufacturing program and students.
The Hall will be a part of the Housatonic Community College Foundation, HCC’s fundraising arm. It will focus on the greater Bridgeport-New Haven area in its first years of existence, than widen out to include all of Connecticut, New England, eventually spanning the entire U.S. A museum is planned for a later date.
“What is significant is that a national organization aimed at promoting manufacturing is emerging from a small community college foundation in CT,” said Denise Bukovan, Dean of Outreach at HCC. “This doesn’t happen every day – or every decade for that matter.”
The Manufacturing Ceremony on Sunday, June 29th at Harbor Yard will included brief comments from representatives of the Hall, a flag ceremony with U.S. service veterans who are retired manufacturers, the singing of the National Anthem by the Greater New Haven Community Chorus, the presentation of up to ten full scholarships to pre-chosen Advanced Manufacturing students at Housatonic Community College, and the ceremonial first pitch by a prominent member of the Connecticut manufacturing community.
All who wish to attend the game and ceremony can get a special group rate of $11 for a box seat or seats of their choice. The event kicks off at 12 noon when all players on the roster will be on the field signing autographs for the fans. Game time is 1:00 PM against the Camden Riversharks.
The event will have many promotional opportunities, with over 20 planned for companies and individuals and multiple sponsorships.
“We wanted to do something with the manufacturing community that had a big impact on manufacturing students and was also about families,” said Bluefish Assistant General Manager Jamie Toole.
Manufacturers may also set up a table or booth on the concourse at a reduced rate if they would like to promote their company or meet potential employees
”We hope manufacturers and their families can come out to the ball park, relax, and have some fun,” said Dan Wisneski, a Trumbull resident whose company, IdeaEngineUSA, is promoting the event for the Hall of Fame.
“We have some unique opportunities for families and kids for the event that are new at Harbor Yard, including 5 fans who will be able to pitch off the bullpen mound to the real bullpen catcher, 16 guest kid announcers, 10 batboys and batgirls, and much more,” Wisneski added.
In order to get the special rate, manufacturers, their families, and any other friends need to go to the Bluefish website http://www.bridgeportbluefish.com/event/details/190/bridgeport-bluefish-vs-camden-riversharks.
