Can you identify these former HCC students?
In 1970, HCC held its first Student Spring Weekend event during which
the College Queen was announced and crowned at a formal dance sponsored
by the Student Government on Saturday evening, May 16, at the Holiday
Inn in Bridgeport.
The Queen was chosen from five finalists. They were Barbara Doyle, Trumbull,
Drusilla Feliciano, Stratford, Lucille LeCascio, Seymour, Carmen Rodriguez,
Bridgeport, and Mary Sullivan, Bridgeport.
The weekend included a Friday evening moonlight cruise on Long Island
Sound (on the ferry to Port Jefferson). The Buffet Dinner Dance on Saturday,
and an all day picnic on Sunday at Eichner’s Grove in Trumbull.
$13 per couple paid for the entire weekend. The cruise was $2.50 per person,
the dance $8 a couple, and the picnic, $2 per person.
Mystery Solved…Identity Found!
The identity of the happy couple in the above photo has been found. Lawrence Bielen is pictured with his sister, Debbie, at the HCC spring weekend dinner dance at the Holiday Inn in Bridgeport in 1970.
Neither Larry nor Debbie attended HCC. Larry at the time was in the Navy Submarine Service and Debbie had graduated from the University of Bridgeport and was home from California. Their friend Sam Alagno did attend HCC and suggested that Larry, who was home on leave, come to the dance. The Bielens and Alagnos have remained good friends and it was Sam Alagno who solved the mystery. Many thanks to all.
