...from the President...
Dear Friends,
Midway through the first quarter of fiscal year 2001 2002, our country was devastated by the events of September 11th. With the world as witness, our way of life in this country changed forever. In the weeks that followed the attacks, Americans responded generously to the many appeals for financial assistance for the thousands of families who lost a loved one that day.
As the country struggled to return to normal, so did the Housatonic
Community College and the Foundation. Despite this difficult year, our
fundraising efforts were largely successful. The Foundation received
almost $120,000 in support from individual donors alone. Combined grant
and corporate support surpassed $100,000.
The Housatonic Museum of Art was the recipient of a gift from the estate
of Louise Gaudet, which has funded the conservation of the Museums
extensive collection as well as exhibitions and educational programs
for the members of the Colleges surrounding community.
Donations from corporations, foundations and local organizations provided
support for the Monday at Noon concert series, the Early Childhood Laboratory,
the Womens Center and the Center for the Arts Courtyard
Festival.
Scholarship awards to HCC students continued, providing over $78,000
in aid to students. In a further effort to assist students, the Foundation
initiated a program to offer modestly priced refurbished computers to
Housatonic students.
In March, the Foundation partnered with the Aquarion Water Company of Connecticut and held the Pillar of the Community event. This years event honored four former students of the College. These individuals were recognized for their accomplishments in their professional lives and the contributions they have made to their communities. The event will generate over $45,000 in support of the Foundations Endowment Fund.
I would like to sincerely thank all of the Foundations donors
for their contributions and extend my appreciation to the individuals
and businesses that have continued to respond to the Foundations
mission. It is through this support that the Foundation completed a
successful year. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am most grateful
to each and every one of you.
Sincerely,
Allan J. Rosen, Esq.
