Annual Meeting

At the HCC Foundation Annual Meeting on September 13, 2000, Allan J. Rosen assumed the mantle of responsibility for the Foundations direction for 2000-2001.
Scholarship support for students attending Housatonic Community College has grown significantly in recent years. Scholars and donors were recognized at the Foundations annual meeting.
The HCC Foundation awarded nearly $72,000 in scholarships and awards to current and graduating Housatonic students....back to top
Womens Center

Grant monies obtained through the Foundation contributed to the Housatonic Community College Womens Center, which opened on October 10, 2000. These grant funds also supported the Centers educational seminars, workshops and a conference addressing womens issues on April 7, 2001. ...back to top

Ansel Adams: CLASSIC IMAGES
Noon Concert Series

The HCC Foundation was the recipient of a $5,800 grant from the Greater Bridgeport Area Foundation. Funds were used to underwrite the Monday-at-Noon Concert Series for the 2000-2001 academic year. The series offered a wide range of professionally performed musical events throughout the year and included classical, jazz and ethnic renditions. The concerts took place on Mondays at noon in the upper Atrium of the College and were open to the public free of charge. ...back to top
Center for the Arts

The newly formed Center for the Arts conducted two events in fiscal year 2000-2001 that were supported by funding from the Foundation. They included an October Cabaret Night and a Courtyard Festival. Pictured left is John Favret, HCC art instructor and organizer of the Festival. The May 3rd Courtyard Festival celebrated diversity in the arts. ...back to top
Early Childhood Laboratory School

Pictured are youngsters enrolled in the Early Childhood Laboratory School program. A grant from the Westport Young Womans League provided scholarships for children enrolled in the program. The HCC Foundation is most grateful to the League for their ongoing support of this program.
Fleet Bank Biotechnology Grant

This past year the College introduced a new course offering in Biotechnology in the Math/Science Department. A $10,000 grant to the HCC Foundation from Fleet Bank provided partial support for this course.
The course is designed to introduce biotechnology, focusing on lab safety, documentation, molecular and cellular biology, recombinant DNA techniques and gel electrophoresis. The course also introduces additional topics in human genetics, DNA forensics, AIDS, and patent law. Students will learn the basic biology behind biotechnology, be exposed to laboratory techniques used in biotechnology labs and learn about careers in the biotechnology industry. ...back to top
Awards Night

Richard Fagan, HCC Foundation Board member (seated), emceed this years Awards Night. This annual event was sponsored once again by the GE Elfun Society. The Foundation is most appreciative of this ongoing support for this special student event. ...back to top
Fairfield County Foundation Literacy Grant
The HCC Foundation is pleased to announce the receipt of a $10,000 discretionary grant from the Fairfield County Foundation. The funds will be used to support the implementation of an early literacy readiness program during the 2001-2002 academic year.
The Colleges Early Childhood Laboratory School will be working in collaboration with Fairfield University and Action for Bridgeport Community Developments (ABCD) Adrienne Kirby Family Literacy Project.
The overall goal of the project is to have more Bridgeport children entering kindergarten ready to learn by building strong literacy and language foundations during the early years. ...back to top
