Housatonic Museum of Art at Housatonic Community College Receives Gift from AT&T Connecticut
BRIDGEPORT - The Housatonic Museum of Art today announced that AT&T
Connecticut has donated fifteen works of art created by twelve American
artists during the second half of the twentieth century, valued at
approximately $12,000.
The donated art, mostly from the 1960s and 70s, is comprised of paintings,
mixed media works and prints by artists from the Connecticut and New
York region, including Richard Lytle, Professor Emeritus of Yale University
School of Art and Power Boothe, former Dean of the Hartford Art School
at the University of Hartford.
“AT&T’s donation represents an exceptionally diverse array
of movements, including American photorealism, abstract painting, and surreal
investigations of landscape,” stated Robbin Zella, Director of the Housatonic
Museum of Art .
“As a whole, the collection offers a wide array of historically important
examples of American image-making in the late twentieth century,” stated
Ms. Zella. “The artists represented have trained and worked primarily
in the Northeast, while exhibiting extensively both nationally and abroad. Rooted
in explorations of landscape, Americana and painting in the Northeast, these
works show a strong commitment to expanding the definition of American art
in the late twentieth century. “
The artworks were acquired throughout the last 25 years and were a
part of the AT&T Corporation Art Collection. Most were on
view in various AT&T buildings since being acquired.
“AT&T donates artwork when an institution's needs pair with AT&T's
commitment to supporting art and education,” stated AT&T Connecticut
president Rodney Smith. “We’re very pleased to be able
to donate these pieces and appreciate that they will find a worthy home at
the Housatonic Museum of Art.”
