HCC OFFERS PROGRAMS IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE
Associate Degree, Four Certificates
Classes Start Jan. 21
BRIDGEPORT – Interested in a career in criminal
justice?
Think
Housatonic.
Housatonic Community College offers an associate degree and four certificate
programs in this field. Moreover, students can begin taking courses
toward these later this month, when the Spring semester begins.
HCC’s associate degree program in criminal justice is an occupational
career program designed to provide students with the professional knowledge,
skills, and techniques required in the field. It prepares students
for careers in both the public and private sector, in areas such as
law enforcement, administration, corrections, investigation, and security
and loss prevention.
As part of the program, students complete a practicum that provides
them with supervised placement in a law enforcement agency. This allows
them to explore career choices while gaining job experience in the
field.
Course offerings are transferable to four-year colleges and universities having programs in criminal justice, public administration, and social sciences. In addition, the college has automatic transfer agreements with four-year colleges such as Sacred Heart University and the University of New Haven that offers automatic acceptance to criminal justice students who meet specified criteria.
In addition to the degree program, Housatonic offers certificates in:
- Corrections. This program provides new students with the educational background needed for entry into the field. Also, it can help prepare those in the field for advancement opportunities. Program credits can be applied to the criminal justice associate degree.
- Criminal Investigation. This program provides students interested in a career in investigation with the background they need to enter the field. In addition, it can help prepare those in the field for advancement opportunities. Program credits can be applied to the criminal justice associate degree.
- Police Management and Administration. This program offers specialty, in-depth training to students interested in pursuing a career in police management and/or administration. This program can also be used by individuals already employed in law enforcement to prepare for advancement opportunities.
- Security Operations. This program prepares students for entry level positions in the field of private security while offering those already employed in the field educational opportunities that can be used for advancement purposes.
HCC has a criminal justice club that sponsors annual job fairs and brings in guest speakers from various criminal justice agencies. Recent guests include nationally famous forensic scientist Dr, Henry Lee.
