Honors Students' Experience at CDC Subject of 12/6 HCC Presentation
7 p.m. in Beacon Hall Events Center
Open to Public at No Charge
BRIDGEPORT -- Housatonic
Community College students recent visit to the nation's premier
health promotion agency will be the subject of a presentation at the
college Monday, Dec. 6.
The students,
members of an honors seminar, will discuss their recent visit to the National
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Global Odyssey Museum in
Atlanta. The museum's exhibits tell the story of the CDC and how CDC
scientists merge old-fashioned detective work with high-tech science to crack
the cases of mystery diseases.
The museum's Global Symphony exhibit relates the urgent investigation
that led to the discovery of Legionnaires' disease; the battle to stem
the rise of obesity in the United States; the ongoing effort to eradicate
polio; and the study of how humans, animals, and the environment interact
in the spread of Ebola. It presents these stories and more in
a multimedia installation that puts you right into the action with
compelling narratives and media collages designed to educate visitors
about CDC's impact on public health.
Monday's presentation will show these exhibits through the eyes
of the students who experienced them. The discussion, which will
begin at 7 p.m. in the Events Center in Beacon Hall, is open to the
public at no charge.
