Science, Technology, Engineering, Math Fields Hold Opportunities for Women Focus of HCC Panel Discussion
10/14, 4 p.m., Beacon Hall Events Center
BRIDGEPORT – Housatonic
Community College will hold a panel discussion October 14 on career
opportunities for women in the science, technology, engineering and
math (STEM) fields.
“Women
are underrepresented in these fields,” said Judy Polizotti, HCC instructor
and co-president of the Bridgeport branch of the American Association of University
Women (AAUW), co sponsor of the event. “Yet, there are many jobs opening
up in these fields that offer attractive wages.”
“We hope that the discussion of the panelists’ shared experience
working in STEM-related job opportunities will inspire both men and women to
enter these fields,” she said. “We encourage middle- and high-school
students to attend and join in the discussion.”
Panelists include Sue Glasspiegel, regional director of CT First (For
Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology); Judy Otton,
principal, Advanced Decisions; Dr. Kathleen Toedt, HCC assistant professor
of anatomy, physiology and biology; and Lucy Brakoniecki, research
and policy analyst at CWELF (Connecticut Women’s Education and
Legal Fund).
The event, which is open to the public at no charge, begins at 4 p.m.
in the Events Center in Beacon Hall.
HCC is located at 900 Lafayette Blvd. in downtown Bridgeport, less
than 150 yards off I-95 (Exit 27)
and Rte. 8 (Exit 1), a block from the Arena at Harbor Yard. Free parking
is available in the Housatonic
Garage.
