Open to Public at No Charge
BRIDGEPORT – The Culture of World Music will be spotlighted Thursday, Oct. 21, when musician Dennis Waring makes a two-part appearance at Housatonic Community College.
From 2 to 3:15 p.m., Waring will conduct a workshop with HCC Theater Arts students in which a performance piece will be developed. At 7 p.m., the piece will be performed and Waring will give a solo performance. Both events will be held in the Performing Arts Center in Lafayette Hall.
Waring, founder and owner of Waring Music, is an ethnomusicologist, educator, author, instrument maker, collector, performer, and arts consultant. He teaches World Music, American Music, and Music Education courses on the university level.
The events, which are open to the public at no charge, are being held as part of the college’s Third Thursday Cultural Celebration series. During most months in the academic year, a performing artist representing a specific culture comes to the college on the third Thursday to develop and perform a piece with Theater Arts students and give a solo performance.
The college is located at 900 Lafayette Blvd., Bridgeport, less than 150 yards off I-95 (Exit 27) and Rte. 8 (Exit 1), a block from the Arena at Harbor Yard. Free parking is available in the HCC garage.
