ADMINISTRATOR TO LEAD
HCC WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS
BRIDGEPORT – Seasoned
university administrator Gary A. Kecskes of Sarasota, Florida, has
been named Dean of Workforce Development, Continuing Education and
Community Outreach at Housatonic Community College.
Kecskes,
who will reside in Trumbull, will focus his efforts on developing programs
that meet the education and training needs of businesses, industry, and municipal
government throughout the Greater Bridgeport area. He will also oversee advertising,
marketing, website, public relations and continuing education activities at
the college.
“Our
goal is to become the premier business solutions provider for Housatonic’s
11-town service region,” said Kecskes. “When the looming economic
recovery takes hold, businesses will want to know whom to call to meet their
education and training needs. We want to be the first call they make. It is
our goal that Housatonic Community College becomes the training provider of
choice for Eastern Fairfield County.”
Under Kecskes’ direction,
the Workforce Development Department will begin developing a broad portfolio
of training solutions that respond directly to area businesses’ needs,
as well as customized job training programs tailored for individual businesses
and industry clusters. He plans to recruit the most qualified instructors that
academia and business have to offer.
Kecskes has
more than 13 years experience heading workforce development, corporate training,
and continuing education programs at a wide variety of institutions, including
community colleges and bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree-granting
institutions. He has developed programs that range in scale and scope
from mom-and-pop businesses to Fortune 500 companies such as General
Motors, Chrysler, BASF and Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals.
Kecskes has
served as executive director of the University of Michigan’s Center for
Corporate and Professional Development, where he was responsible for curriculum
development, marketing and evaluation of more than 230 professional development,
corporate training and open enrollment programs. He led a team of 16 staff
members and managed more than 70 content experts and instructors.
He held similar
positions at Lawrence Technical University in Southfield, Michigan and at Hillsborough
Community College in Tampa, Florida. During his 18 years at Lawrence, he also
taught in a variety of academic disciplines as an adjunct instructor.
He holds
bachelor’s master’s and professional degrees from Lawrence and
earned certification in the Management of Lifelong Education from Harvard University.
