HCC SUMMER SESSIONS OFFER AFFORDABILITY, FLEXIBILITY
CE “Twofer” Program Kicks
Off
BRIDGEPORT – Housatonic Community College this
summer is once again offering a selection of courses that add up to
flexibility and affordability.
HCC is offering 150 credit courses in three summer sessions starting
June 1. Included in these are online courses that students can literally
take 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Session I, the eight-week session,
runs June 1 – July 23; Session II, a five-week session, June
1– July 1; while Session III, another five-week session,
runs July 6– August 5.
“This summer, HCC will offer something for everyone,” said HCC
spokesman Anson Smith. “Our three-session structure gives students the
flexibility to study at their own pace, to tailor their course load to their
individual goals, and still take that much needed summer vacation.”
In addition, the Continuing Education department is offering more than
30 fast-track, non-credit courses in a wide variety of fields that
include business, art, computers, education, health and wellness, languages,
food, medical, graphics, real estate, recreation and sports and fitness. These
courses are designed to give students what they need when they need
it.
To introduce new people to non-credit courses, HCC is offering a new “Twofer” program
for select courses. Sign up for one of these courses and you can bring
a friend for free. (Yes, you can split the cost, and each get the course
for half price.) For more information, contact Continuing Education
at 203-332-5057 or emelendez@hcc.commnet.edu.
Session I offers credit courses in art/graphic design, business, biology
chemistry, communications, computer science, criminal justice, early
childhood education, economics, English, geography, history,
mathematics, physical science, psychology, sign language, sociology,
and Spanish.
Session II offers courses in business, biology chemistry, communications,
computer science, criminal justice, developmental studies, English,
history, mathematics, music, philosophy, physics, psychology, sociology
and Spanish.
Session III offers courses in biology, communications, English, history,
mathematics, physics, political science, psychology, sociology and
Spanish.
Tuition for a three-credit course is $473, including fees, compared
to more than $1,200 at a local private college.
“These courses are ideal for students who want to graduate ahead of schedule,
or make up for lost time,” Smith said.
The non-credit courses are ideal for people who want to strengthen
their background for a promotion, new job or new career, Smith added.
Sessions II and III, the five-week sessions, are appropriate for people
who want to accomplish as much as they can in a short period of time,
Smith said. “Session I, the eight-week session, is tailor-made
for working students who are trying to balance education with a full-time
job and/or family responsibilities,” Smith said.
All three sessions are appropriate for HCC students enrolled in associate
degree or certificate programs, as well as students at other colleges
and universities who are looking for quality credits at an affordable
cost.
While HCC’s credits transfer easily, students of other colleges
are encouraged to clear their summer course plans with their college
registrar to address any potential stumbling blocks.
Registration for the summer sessions is going on now. Students
who wish to attend may register by fax, mail, or by dropping off a
registration form and payment information in the drop box in the college
lobby through July 2; in person (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) through July 6;
or online at www.hcc.commnet.edu <http://www.hcc.commnet.edu/> through
July 5. Students are encouraged to register early to ensure they
get the classes they want.
