BRIDGEPORT - Housatonic
Community College will conduct its first annual Psychology Fair Monday,
April 19.
Headlining the list of speakers will be Dr. William Mayer, a sports
psychology consultant who works with the newly formed United Football
League that will have a team in Hartford this season. At 10 a.m.,
he will discuss his role in helping athletes increase their performance
and provide an overview of services psychologists provide to both professional
and amateur athletes.
At 1 p.m., HCC Behavioral and Social Science Department Chair Claudine
Coba-Loh will lead a panel discussion on dual diagnoses and mental
health conditions that are treatable in the field of psychology. She
will be joined on the panel by Stephanie Birmingham, Audrey Baehr,
Shahidah Thomas, and Tim Morris. An overview of HCC’s Behavioral
Health Certificate Program will also be provided.
At 3 p.m., Dr. Shannon Jackson of the University of New Haven’s
Counseling Center will discuss the field of Clinical Psychology and
the role he plays in helping patients recover from a variety of behavioral
and mental health conditions.
The fair, which is free and open to the public, will feature information
about careers in psychology and offer valuable information for self
education. It takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Events Center
in Beacon Hall.
HCC is located at 900 Lafayette Blvd. in downtown Bridgeport, less
than 150 yards off I-95 (Exit 27) and Rte. 8 (Exit 1), a block from
the Arena at Harbor Yard. Free parking is available in the HCC
garage.
