HCC OFFERING CNA PROGRAM
NEW LAB BUILT
FOR PROGRAM
STARTS FEB. 22
BRIDGEPORT – Housatonic Community College this
month will offer a non-credit Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) program.
The 12-week program, which begins Feb. 22, consists of 36 hours of
classroom instruction, 36 hours of laboratory work, and 36 hours of
hands-on training. The program will prepare students to take the State
of Connecticut’s CNA
certification exam.
“Offering this program reflects HCC’s commitment to preparing
students for careers that are in demand,” said Deborah S. Kuchmas, director
of workforce and non-credit programs. “Nursing careers are projected
to grow 17 percent over the next eight years.”
The training will provide a career ladder pathway that will enable interested
students, including unemployed individuals and underemployed health care workers,
to develop the skills necessary to seek CNA positions at healthcare facilities,
Kuchmas said.
A new laboratory was built at HCC to accommodate the new programs, Kuchmas said.
The lab will enable students to practice the skills learned in class.
Tuition for the program is $899.
