Easton-based foundation aids Housatonic alumni gala on Nov. 21
The Bannow Larson
Foundation of Easton has committed a $10,000 sponsorship to the Housatonic
Community College (HCC) Foundation in support of the college’s
Alumni Hall of Fame Gala, a Nov. 21 fund-raising event at Housatonic’s
new Beacon Hall events center.
Dorothy Larson, Bannow Larson Foundation president, said the sponsorship
is consistent with the foundation’s mission to support educational opportunities for
local students.
Larson said the event will “honor alumni who have made the best of their
HCC education, while raising scholarship funds for deserving greater Bridgeport
students hoping to better themselves through further education.”
The black-tie gala will include a special presentation by actor, director
and author LeVar Burton, who is known for roles in the TV miniseries
Roots; as host of the PBS children’s series Reading Rainbow; and co-star of the Emmy Award-winning
TV series Star Trek: The Next Generation.
In addition to his stage and screen career, Burton is a literacy advocate
who speaks on the subject worldwide.
The evening will include the induction of three HCC alumni into the
college’s
newly formed Alumni Hall of Fame. The inductees have distinguished themselves
in their careers or community service.
