MANUFACTURING IN 21ST CENTURY
FOCUS OF HCC WORKSHOPS 8/6 AND 8/20
BRIDGEPORT -- Housatonic Community College, in conjunction
with the College of Technology’s Regional Center for Next Generation
Manufacturing, will conduct an open house on Manufacturing for the
21st Century Thursday, Aug. 6 and Thursday, Aug. 20.
The open house, which will be held at the college from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., will
focus on emerging trends and current practice in lean manufacturing and HCC’s
industrial technology program.
The discussion of lean manufacturing will focus on cutting-edge practices to
reduce waste, reduce defects, help an organization adopt a continuous improvement
culture, increase flexibility in the manufacturing process, and empower employees
to learn from their mistakes and improve their skills.
The discussion of HCC’s Industrial Technology Program will focus on how
the program provides the knowledge and skills needed by today’s manufacturers
in order to compete in a competitive global marketplace. Courses such as Writing
and Research in Business and Industry (Technical Writing), CAD Mechanical AutoCAD,
Statistical Process Control (SPC), Manufacturing Processes, Engineering Processes
(Materials), Metrology, Environmental Safety and Health, and Computer Numeric
Control (CNC) are designed to provide these skills.
HCC will offer the first technical course in the Industrial Technology program,
CAD Mechanical AutoCAD and Manufacturing Processes, next semester.
The August sessions will offer information on the AutoCad course. The course,
to be offered Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., will provide an introduction
to the drawing field. Key areas of emphasis will include technical drafting practices,
procedures and processes, the visualization of multi-view drawings, CAD literacy
and the application of CAD to various engineering fields. Students will have
an opportunity to complete a wide array of drawing assignments using their CAD
workstations.
The workshops will be held in Room A225 in Lafayette Hall.
