HCC SUMMER SESSIONS START JUNE 1
BRIDGEPORT – Summer
classes at Housatonic Community College start Monday, June 1.
Set to begin are Session I, an eight-week session, and Session II, one of two
five-week sessions being offered. The former is tailor-made for working students
who are trying to balance education with a full-time job and/or family responsibilities,
while the latter is suitable for students who want to accomplish as much as they
can in a short period of time.
Both sessions offer online courses that can be taken 24/7.
Session I, which runs June 1-July 24, offers 48 courses in Art, Business,
Biology, Chemistry, Communications, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Developmental
Studies, Early Childhood Education, Economics, English, English as a Second Language,
Geography, Mathematics, Philosophy, Psychology, Physical
Therapy, Sociology, and Spanish. Courses include ESL Grammar III, Introduction
to Philosophy, and the innovative OE/OE math, which includes Prealgebra
and Elementary Algebra.
The OE/OE math offerings are computer-based courses that students can join any
time during a semester (given available seats) and take up to three
semesters to finish. The courses are ideal for students who need a
math referesher as well as those who need extra time with math.
Online courses being offered this session include the Early Childhood
Education course, The Exceptional Learner; Literature and Composition; Art History;
General Psychology I; and Social Psychology.
Session II, which runs June 1-July 2, offers courses in Accounting,
Biology, Chemistry, Communications, Computer Science, English, ESL,
History, Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Physics, Psychology, Sociology,
and Spanish. The math courses include OE/OE Prealgebra and Elementary
Algebra.
Online courses being offered this session include Principles of Criminal
Behavior, Abnormal Psychology, and Introduction to Nutrition.
Tuition for a three-credit course is $452, including fees, compared to more than
$1,200 at a local private college.
While HCC’s credits transfer easily, students of other colleges
are encouraged to clear their summer course plans with their college
registrar to address any potential stumbling blocks.
Registration for the summer sessions is going on now. Students who
wish to attend may register in person (M-F, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) by fax,
mail, or by dropping off a registration form and payment information
in the drop box in the college or online at www.hcc.commnet.edu <http://www.hcc.commnet.edu/> .
Students are encouraged to register early to ensure they get the classes
they want.
