BRIDGEPORT - Housatonic Community College and Sacred Heart University
will sign an agreement Thursday to make it easier for Housatonic
graduates to transfer into Sacred Heart business programs. The agreement
will enable graduates in accounting, business administration, finance,
banking and management with at least a 2.5 grade point average and 54
transferable credits to enter Sacred Heart as a junior.
Previously, Housatonic and Sacred Heart had a general transfer
agreement. This one is specific to the business program and will include
a detailed path students can follow to ensure a seamless transfer, said
Anson Smith, college spokesman.
"So if you're a student at Housatonic and want to transfer to
Sacred
Heart as a business student this agreement will specifically address
those students' needs," said Funda Alp, Sacred Heart spokeswoman.
Dean Nancy Sidoti said under the new deal, students who transfer
from
Housatonic will still have to earn half of their business credits at
Sacred Heart.
"But it will be less intimidating. This creates a seamless transition.
They will know before they come to us what they need to take," she said.
Sacred Heart already has a transfer arrangement with Norwalk Community
College for its business degrees and is working on one with Naugatuck
Valley Community College in Waterbury.
Sidoti said talks are also under way to create seamless transfers
for
other majors, such as criminal justice.
Last June, Housatonic signed an articulation agreement that eased
the
way for Housatonic students interested in business and technology to
attend the University of Connecticut in Stamford or Waterbury without
losing credits.
Sacred Heart's business program was recently renamed the Jack Welch
College of Business and is seeking accreditation from the American
Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business.
Among those attending the 11 a.m. signing will be HCC President Janis
M.
Hadley and SHU President Anthony J. Cernera.
