HCC, FOUR PROFESSORS TO RECEIVE AWARDS

Housatonic Community College, four of its professors, and 19 students from Bridgeport’s Bassick High School will receive awards May 7 at a special ceremony at the college.

HCC will receive the Outstanding Partnership Award as the founding academic partner in establishing the Southwestern Area Health Education Center (SW AHEC) in Connecticut.

Professor Mickey Reed of North Haven will receive AHEC’s Outstanding Educator Award for her contribution in coordinating the training and education of Bridgeport Middle and High School students in health careers and occupational therapy. Professors Elizabeth Steeves of Monroe, Phyllis Gutowski of Trumbull, Dr. Jennifer Galluzzi of Stamford and the Admissions Department will receive Certificates of Recognition for their participation in health careers programs with AHEC.

The 19 Bassick High School students will receive certificates of completion for finishing the eight-week mini-medical school program at the college that introduced them to careers in the health care field. The awards ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. in the Burt Chernow Gallaries at the college. The mini-medical school was sponsored by SW AHEC and HCC.
