For more information, call Anson Smith at 203-332-5229 FOOD/BOOK DRIVE FOR NEEDY AT HCCBRIDGEPORT- Housatonic Community College students are collecting food and books for Bridgeport’s needy children. The drive, sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Women’s Center, is targeting hunger and illiteracy in the community. Toward this end, the groups are collecting non perishable food items and books for children up to age 15 at the college A book-and-food donation box is located in the Main Lobby at the college, located at 900 Lafayette Blvd in Bridgeport. Additional food donation boxes are located in the cafeteria, library, support service center, 2nd floor atrium, and Broad Street entrance. Food and books will be collected until May 29, graduation day at the college. Members of the public are welcome to make donations. With a six-year old campus in the heart of Connecticut’s largest city, Housatonic is one of the country’s fastest-growing public community colleges. Since it moved to the new downtown campus in 1997, Housatonic’s enrollment has increased 70 percent. According to the most recent statistics released by the Washington D.C- based American Association of Community Colleges, Housatonic was the Northeast’s fastest-growing community college in the 1,000-plus student category. In response to increased enrollments and changing workplace needs both regionally and nationally, Housatonic has increased the number of programs offered from 43 to 63 since moving to its new campus.
