"RUMI: THE PATH OF LOVE" TO BE PERFORMED AT HCC
BRIDGEPORT -- "Rumi: the Path of Love", a musical performance of poems by the Sufi mystic Jelaluddin Rumi, will be performed Friday, April 4 at Housatonic Community College. The poems, set to music and performed by the Voicepoint theatre ensemble of Stamford, are the celebration of the passionate life of Rumi, a mystic born 800 years ago in Afghanistan. His life story was one of intrigue, mystery, love, jealousy and even murder, but resulted in an outpouring of poetry that is regarded as relevant today. Voicepoint has taken twelve of Rumi’s poems and teaching stories and composed music for voice, guitar, drum and flute and, together with story-telling and movement, woven them into a performance that has been described by audiences as “transformatory,” “deeply moving,” and bearing a healing message for turbulent times.
