Will Use Smoke Trailer - AREA FIREFIGHTERS TO DEMONSTRATE SAFE HOME EVACUATION AT HCC

Three area fire departments will use a “smoke trailer” tomorrow (Wednesday, Nov. 6) to demonstrate safe home evacuation practices to students ranging from pre-school to high school age. Students from the college’s Early Childhood Laboratory School will be among those attending. The trailer can be filled with an artificial smoke-like substance to give people the opportunity to practice evacuation under lifelike conditions. The Westport Fire Department, Bridgeport Fire Department, Stratford Fire Department and the Stratford Professional Firefighters Association are providing equipment, personnel and financial support. The program is being coordinated by HCC student Elizabeth Tibbals of Stratford as part of her volunteer efforts with special needs students at Bridgeport’s Harding High School. The demonstrations will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the college, which is located at 900 Lafayette Blvd in Bridgeport, less than 150 yards off I-95 ( right off Exit 27) and Rte 8 (left off Exit 1). The event will be held rain or shine.
