EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS TO “GRADUATE” FROM COLLEGE
Twenty-five eighth grade students from Bridgeport will be “graduating”
from Housatonic Community College August 1. The students, who have excelled
academically and have achieved high PSAT and CMT scores, have been attending
classes at Housatonic since July 8 as part of a special health careers
preparation program. The program’s math enrichment component is
being taught by HCC professor Mark Leach while its science enrichment
component is being taught by a number of area college professors and
health care professionals. The program is sponsored by the Southwestern
Area Health Education Center (AHEC), an HCC affiliate, and the Connecticut
State Summer GEAR-UP Project. The students’ “graduation”
from the program will be held August 1 at 6 p.m. in Room A101 at the
college. HCC is located at 900 Lafayette Boulevard, Bridgeport - take
exit 27 off I-95 or Exit 1 off Rte 8 and follow the signs to the college.
