HCC’S “BEST AND BRIGHTEST” HONORED AT AWARDS NIGHT
BRIDGEPORT - Some 102 students at Housatonic Community College were
honored Tuesday, May 28, at the 35th Awards Night Ceremony held at the
college.
The students, said John Finnegan of Fairfield, emcee for the evening,
represent “the best and the brightest” of the class of 2002.
“Education opens doors to a more promising career - and a more
promising future,” he said.
“That’s why students like you sacrifice your leisure time
and a good night’s sleep for long hours in front of books and computer
screens, or in laboratories,” he added. “You know the payback
is well worth the sacrifice.”
Michael Foster of Bridgeport walked away with the most awards, six,
including awards for Academic Accomplishment in Accounting, Academic
Achievement in Business Administration: Finance, the Beverly G. Anderson
Memorial Award, the Housatonic Foundation Scholars award, the Housatonic
Scholars award and the Student Senate Award.
Ellen N. Frost of Milford received five awards, including the Dale
Ward Scholarship, the Housatonic Foundation Dale Ward Endowed Scholarship
Award, the Frank J. Scallon Scholarhsip, the Housatonic Foundation Scholars
award, and the Outstanding Academic Excellence in Early Childhood Education
award.
With a five-year-old campus in the heart of Connecticut's largest
city, Housatonic is one of the country's fastest-growing public community
colleges. Since it moved to the new campus in January 1997, HCC's enrollment
has increased 61 percent. According to the most recent statistics released
by the Washington D.C.-based American Association of Community Colleges,
HCC was ranked among the country’s 34 fastest -growing public community
colleges and was third in the Northeast.
In response to increased enrollments and changing workplace needs
both regionally and nationally, HCC has increased the number of programs
offered from 43 to 65 since moving to the new campus.
