FOR MORE INFORMATION HCC TO HOST HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL, DAYS OF REMEMBRANCEBRIDGEPORT- Housatonic Community College will be hosting Days of Remembrance, a memorial to the Holocaust on Tuesday, April 9. Everyone is invited to view the artwork of the holocaust, listen to poetry, and hear survivors stories. Participants can watch video clips on the web, contribute to a memorial, and reflect and engage in silent conversations about the experience. The commemoration of the Holocaust, or Shoah, falls on the anniversary of the uprising of the Warsaw Ghetto, the 27th of Nissan, on the Jewish calendar. This year it falls on Tuesday, April 9. The national days of remembrance, as established annually by congress, is the week of April 7- 14. This years theme is Memories of Courage, paying homage to those who chose to participate and did not stand by. The event will be sponsored by the HCC Diversity Committee, and co sponsored by the Black Student Union, the Gay Straight Alliance, and the Multi Cultural Club. Gail Ostrow, adjunct professor at HCC said, In keeping with this years theme, Memories of Courage- a tribute to people who chose to participate instead of just stand by - each of us must answer the question, what would I do? More to the point, what am I going to do now? The event will take place in the HCC Cafeteria from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. For more information contact Gail Ostrow at 366- 3722. With a five- year old campus in the heart of Connecticuts largest city, Housatonic is one of the countrys fastest growing public community colleges. Since it moved to the new downtown campus in 1997. HCCs enrollment has increased 60 percent. According to the most recent statistics, released by the Washington D.C- based American Association of Community Colleges, HCC was ranked among the nations 34 fastest growing public community colleges and was third in the northeast. In response to increased enrollments and changing workplace needs both regionally and nationally, HCC has increased the number of programs offered from 43 to 65 since moving to its new campus.
