FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT HCC TO HOST FEMINIST SPEAKER MARY DALYBRIDGEPORT- On Saturday, April 6, the Housatonic Community College Womens Center will host noted feminist, author and professor, Mary Daly, who will speak on the importance of womens studies programs Mary Daly is now, as she has always been, a controversial figure. Beyond being a feminist icon, she is also a scholar of substantial achievement and the author of seven books and countless articles. It is a great honor to have someone of Mary Dalys stature speaking on womens issues at our college, said Linda Wolfson, co-chair of the Womens Center. Mary Daly received a doctorate in religion at the St. Marys College in Notre Dame Indiana, and received another two from the University of Fribourg, in Switzerland. Daly was an assistant professor at Boston College. Currently, she is lecture speaker touring the United States. The event will be held in the Performing Arts Center at the HCC campus from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event is free and all are welcome. Light refreshments will be served. With a five- year old campus in the heart of Connecticuts largest city, Housatonic is one of the countrys fastest-growing public community colleges. Since it moved to the new downtown campus in 1997. HCCs enrollment has increased 60 percent. According to the most recent statistics released by the Washington D.C- based American Association of Community Colleges, HCC was ranked among the nations 34 fastest growing public community colleges and was third in the Northeast. In response to increased enrollments and changing workplace needs both regionally and nationally, HCC has increased the number of programs offered from 43 to 65 since moving to its new campus.
