| Hi!
I'm Mickey Reed,
the program director for the Occupational Therapy Assistant
Program at Housatonic Community College. I also work
as the Teaching and Learning Consultant in service to the
faculty at HCC and I am an advisor to the Gay Straight Alliance.
I am an avid gardener , a puppeteer and I love making
music ( especially singing rounds) . I recently took up welding
giant sculptures out of old car parts.
I graduated
from two different community colleges before going on
to get degrees in fine arts, therapeutic
environments and counseling Finally, at age 33, I decided
what I wanted to be when I grew up and I went back to school
for my occupational therapy degree.
Since then, I have
worked in schools and nursing homes and have had my own private
OT practice helping children with sensory integration
disorders. I continue to consult privately as an occupational
therapist.
I have taught at
public and private colleges and for businesses and hospitals
but my favorite students are community college students.
I am truly inspired by their dedication and perseverance.
It takes both to get an education and maintain
the responsibilities of jobs and families and all the
other real life events that don't stop just because
you are in school.
This web page has
a great deal of information about the Occupational Therapy
program. If you are thinking about becoming an
OTA this is a great place to start . If
you don't find what you are looking for, please call or e
mail me.
I have also developed
some resources about topics I am interested in and often asked
about. You can see them at the left of the page.If you find
links that are broken or have comments about this page
