Foundation & Alumni

Housatonic Community College Foundation

The HCC Foundation is a unique educational resource for the College, its students and the community by providing financial assistance beyond the fundamentals provided by the State of Connecticut.

Our Mission:
To enhance Housatonic Community College through positive regional community relations, and to develop private funds that advance educational opportunities for students, staff and the community.  By generating, processing and allocating gifts, the Foundation supports efforts that enhance the quality of programs by funding scholarships, student emergency assistance, childcare assistance for parents enrolled at Housatonic, program enhancements and support of the Housatonic Museum of Art.

Board of Directors:
The Foundation is overseen by a Board of Directors whose membership is comprised of community leaders from the greater Bridgeport area including a faculty member and a Student Government Association representative. The Foundation acts as the sole recipient of gifts for the College.  The Corporation, founded in 1990 by a group of greater Bridgeport residents and business and arts leaders, has been granted 501(C)(3), not-for-profit status by the Internal Revenue Service, and classified as a public charity under Section 509(A)(3). (CLICK HERE FOR CURRENT FOUNDATION BOARD MEMBERS)

Fundraising:
Annual fundraising efforts of the Foundation include the signature events, “Distinguished Alumni Awards Gala” and “Alumni Reunion Dance.”  The annual campaign fundraising and special gifts raise funds for general support of the Foundation.  The Foundation is building for the future by working with donors to establish planned gifts and legacies to support the College.
Beginning in September 2006 and concluding in March 2008, the Major Gift Campaign, titled, “Pathway to Success,” raised $1,150,000 in donations. This was the first major campaign undertaken by the Housatonic Community College Foundation.  Funds raised were used to support student success: the scholarship program, math and language lab enhancements, the honors program, the Middle College Program, and the work of the HCC Museum of Art.

Alumni Association

The Alumni Association is a division of the HCC Foundation. College Alumni play an important role for the College in many ways. Alumni offer new and innovative ideas and can serve as an avenue of communication for students and the community. Many alumni serve their alma mater by becoming volunteers as student mentors, student recruiters or as college supporters in their community to give something in return to the College that helped shape their lives.

Our Mission:
The Office of Alumni Affairs develops relationships and establishes lifelong connections between Housatonic Community College and its alumni and friends, leading to increased support for the institution’s mission and goals. Successful relations are the result of the strategic and deliberate cultivation of alumni as leaders, volunteers, advocates, and donors for Housatonic Community College.

Guiding Values:

  • Connect alumni and friends strategically back to the College linking their interests to College needs.
  • Enhance student success at many levels through scholarships and programs that foster a life-long commitment to the College.
  • Advocate, promote and educate the public concerning the value of investing in Housatonic Community College.
  • Support the mission of the HCC Foundation to develop private funds that advance educational opportunities for students, staff and the communities we serve.

Goals:

  • Establish and cultivate relations with alumni and friends of Housatonic Community College through communications, programs, and services.
  • Serve as the primary alumni resource for Housatonic Community College in alumni services and programs, working with colleges and schools to promote alumni involvement and cultivation.
  • Identify, motivate and train strong alumni volunteers to raise scholarship funds and foster student recruitment for Housatonic Community College.
  • Encourage diversity by increasing the involvement of minority and young alumni in the life and support of the College.
  • Promote membership in the Alumni Association as an intermediate step toward becoming fully vested in the College.

Strategic Initiatives:

To build relationships with current and prospective alumni donors.

To include unrestricted gifts as an option in the annual and alumni campaign.

HOUSATONIC COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOUNDATION
ALUMNI HALL OF FAME

The Housatonic Community College Foundation is accepting nominations for its second annual Distinguished Alumni Award – a prestigious award bestowed upon alumni who have achieved a high level of success in their careers, and are having a positive impact on their communities.  Three alumni selected from among the nominees will be formally inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame at the Foundation’s black tie Gala on Saturday, November 19, 2011 in the Beacon Hall Event Center

The Alumni Hall of Fame was established in 2009 as a means of both honoring alumni and inspiring the college’s current student population.  The Foundation hopes that by recognizing distinguished alumni in this way, the current student body will be impressed with the knowledge that with education, they too have the potential to achieve career success and personal fulfillment.

For more information on the Alumni Hall of Fame nomination process, or on becoming a sponsor of the Hall of Fame Gala, please contact Maureen Dowdle, Director of Institutional Advancement mdowdle@hcccommnet.edu or call her at 203-332-5078.
