12 weeks, September 14 – December 08, 2009

CNA Program: This 108 hour, 12 week program prepares students to work in long term care facilities, hospitals, and private duty. 36 hours of classroom instruction, combined with 72 hours of Lab, practical hands on training. Housatonic Community College (HCC), Norwalk Community College (NCC), and Westchester Community College will be partners to deliver this new CNA program to the Bridgeport campus. This program prepares the students for the State of Connecticut’s Certification to practice as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). The students will learn to deliver all aspects of personal care to patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).

A. CNA program entrance requirements:

  1. Complete a non credit, Continuing Education (CE) registration form. This form is needed to enter you into the college system as a potential student and assign you a student Banner ID number.  This Banner number is needed for you to be eligible to take the accuplacer test. (see number 2 below). The registration forms can be found online: Download PDF of form or in the CE department, Lafayette Hall, room C107
  2. Contact the college’s placement test center to schedule an appointment for the accuplacer test. (203) 332-5019. Simply tell the placement test center that you would like to schedule a testing appointment for both English and Math. IMPORTANT: All students must submit a CE registration form and have the CE dept assign a student Banner ID number to be eligible to take the accuplacer test. No Banner ID number, no test. The test is free of charge.
  3. All students must pass the accuplacer test for both Math and English (writing, reading, and verbal skills) All students must place into English 101 and Math 095 to be eligible for the entrance into the program. Please bring photo ID to your scheduled testing appointment.
  4. All students who pass the accuplacer test are eligible to take the verbal skills test (interview). Call the CE department to schedule your interview with the CNA Coordinator. (203) 332-5057.  Applicants will be notified of their test results by phone and email.

B. Official Acceptance into CNA Program:

  1. Students who pass both the accuplacer test and the interview, are then randomly selected into the program. This makes the selection process fair. (Accuplacer test and interview must be graded before acceptance and registration into the CNA program)
  2. If you are accepted into the CNA program, you will be sent an official acceptance letter by mail.
  3. Your next step will be to officially register in the CNA program. To officially register in the program, you must come to the Continuing Education in person to register. Lafayette Hall, room C107. Bring your photo ID, and acceptance letter to the CE department to officially register for the program. No one will be registered without a photo ID and acceptance letter. No exceptions.
